Il Gufo( )
With neo-nostalgia, inspired by the 60's, Il Gufo's girls, boys and baby collections offer unique pieces that are often handmade. Il Gufo children's dresses have been around since 1980, situated just a few kilometers from Asolo. The house creates Italian-chic childrenswear thanks to their craftsmanship. All products are made in Italy, from concept to their designs and also their fabrics. Many of their fabrics are made by Bonotto, the "Fabbrica lenta". The idea of this type of fabric was discovered by Giovanni Bonotto himself. Large fashion houses such as Chanel, Prada or Isabel Marant all flock to the warehouse to get a piece of Bonotto's material.
The Il Gufo story
"Il Gufo" means "owl" in Italian. It is the nickname given to the brand's founder, Giovanna Miletti, by her friends. Why? Because, as a mother of 3 children, Giovanna Miletti left her job in the 1970s to follow her husband to the province of Trévise in the Veneto region of Italy, and because, as a hobby, she used to stay up all night designing children's clothes.
Exceptionally gifted, Giovanna Miletti first created clothes for her own children, and then, gradually, for her friends' children. She cuts, sews, designs, embroiders... the family greenhouse was transformed into her workshop and it was only when the children were finally asleep that the whole house was filled with the incessant humming of her sewing machine. Little by little, Giovanna Miletti grows a circle of collaborators and launches the Il Gufo brand in the 1980s. Il Gufo clothing bursts onto the Italian market, dressing little girls and boys in a simple yet sophisticated style, combined with an unparalleled quality that the brand is renowned for. First and foremost a family business, Il Gufo is still managed by Giovanna Miletti, as well as two of her children, Alessandra and Guido Chiavelli, who have given the brand its international reach.
A premium clothing brand for children aged 0 to 14 years, Il Gufo's philosophy is to promote family values through its high-quality creations. The once small, artisan affair has become big business and is registering continuous growth while staying faithful to its design DNA, at the same time maintaining a focus on innovation.
Based on the brand's philosophy of respect for children and their world, Il Gufo places an emphasis on carefully crafting each piece. Artisan quality, the best suppliers, research and Italian style... it is as though each dress, pair of trousers or coat by Il Gufo were designed by Giovanna herself.
The Il Gufo style
As passionate now as when she first started out, Giovanna has turned Il Gufo into one of the leading global fashion labels for children, made successful through its unique style. At Il Gufo, everything is "Made in Italy": from the concept through to the design and fabrics.
The brand's pieces are instantly recognisable because each one of them channels a unique visual identity, a subtle blend of know-how, Nordic inspiration and natural colourways. Giovanna closely oversees each detail of the children's clothing that she produces, from the moodboard for the collections through to pattern construction and the tiniest embroidery detail. Always striving for excellence, for certain pieces Il Gufo collaborates with the same workshop used by Prada, Chanel and Isabel Marant: Bonotto, among others. This results in the creation of children's fashion gems, which flirt with luxury and a magical, mysterious je-ne-sais-quoi.
