The (new) Marc Jacobs
This season marks a turning point for Marc Jacobs. The childrenswear line is inspired by the adult collection and transforms their name from Little Marc Jacobs to The Marc Jacobs. Why “The”? The designer wishes to set up collaborations with his favorite artists and brands in order to create THE perfect wardrobe. Fans of the brand will be able to find a winter capsule called “The Collection”. New name, new logo. The Marc Jacobs has become multicolored and is featured on timeless pieces such as their iconic sweats and t-shirts.
The newness continues. A new line calls for a new mascot. What’s better than a squirrel, the ultimate symbol of Central Park and The Big Apple to represent the spirit of the brand? Not shy, the small animal comes in a badge in yellow, white, blue or pink depending on the clothes.
Since New York is at the heart of the inspiration, the designer introduces the popular district SoHo on his creations. The pink front of the new Marc Jacobs’ store, situated in SoHo, is featured on t-shirts or in comic style illustrations. The references to New York culture is also seen in the hot-dog prints, taxis, and traffic lights… even the logo has a similar typography to The New Yorker magazine.
Other inspiration: The Color Factory on Spring Street, an interactive exhibition which celebrates color. It’s the dream excuse the develop a colorful and joyful line of clothes. The Color Block trend is brought to life by the colorful tights for girls, iconic trainers and a multi-colored faux fur coat. The fun shades are seen in the form of sequin stripes, reversible pieces like bomber jackets or on dresses. What a treat for our eyes…but of course all in good taste!
The Marc Jacobs spirit is fun, colorful and joyful. Obviously, the bridges between the adult world and the kids world are infinite, so it is wonderful to find many pieces for adults with similar versions for the little ones. The “Haute Couture” dress with black and white stripes, the leopard print dress, the checkerboard print sweatshirt, the Christmas patterned jumpers… and let’s not forget about the accessories: backpacks, sneakers and ballerina pumps.
The winter capsule: Snoopy X The Marc Jacobs
Another surprise awaits the kids this season: Snoopy and his sidekick Woodstock. The two characters from the comic strip Peanuts who live by the little dog’s famous philosophical saying “Friends are always there”. The capsule brings us Mini-me’s (joggers, sweats and t-shirts) in pastel colors for girls and boys.
