Stripes by Rykiel
"Stripe: it's the memory of a body, what's between the lines,
the content that describes what contains it.
It's a body, with eyes wide open. It's a slash on fabric, a cut on a drawing,
one line that chases another."
Sonia Rykiel, Dictionnaire Déglingué, Flammarion (2011).
From 1962 to 1968, Sonia Rykiel dreamed up all sorts of fitted sweaters, something quite new for the time. She shook things up even more when she added stripes: Françoise Hardy, Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot all rushed over to Rykiel to pick up a little striped sweater... which became THE signature piece for the maison. 2016: Julie de Libran perpetuates a love of stripes at Sonia Rykiel and Sonia Rykiel Enfant.
