Spectacular exhibition in honor of Studio Ghibli’s 30-year anniversary

It was 30 years ago. June 1985, the opening of anime films studio Ghibli. Castle in the Sky (1986), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Porco Rosso (1992), Princess Mononoke (1997), When Marnie Was There (2014) or The Red Turtle, that won a prize at the Cannes Film Festival this year, prolific and visionary directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata overflow us with masterpieces. To celebrate this emblematical anniversary a 30-year retrospective is organized at the Tokyo City View, an observatory located 250 meters above sea level. A spectacular venue for a spectacular exhibition. And that’s to say the least: you can sit at the bar with a life-sized Totoro or slip into the catbus (My Neighbor Totoro). Full immersion is guaranteed. And the highlight of the show: the giant illuminated model ship from the Castle in the Sky (1986). Symbol of Miyazaki’s passion for planes, the piece of art unfolds in the sky, surrounded by flying objects of all sorts. The show titled “Ghibli Expo: From Nausicaä to Its Latest Film, The Red Turtle” is a unique opportunity for fans and novices to dive into a kid-friendly retrospective of Ghibli’s work. The exhibition runs until September 11th 2016. Passing through Tokyo? Don’t miss it! https://vimeo.com/174210524
