Kenzo is as unique of a brand as the mastermind behind its name. As is the case with many great fashion houses, Kenzo has managed to conserve the style and soul of the brand’s original designer Kenzo Takada, well after its 1970 launch.
Born in Himeji, Japan in 1939, Kenzo Takada moved to Paris in 1964 following a month and a half boat ride from his native country. With the launch of his first boutique named Jungle Jap in 1970, Kenzo unveiled his first line of colorful creations that married oriental designs with occidental techniques, an aesthetic unique to the brand. Easy to wear and modern, Kenzo was first spotted by American Vogue, and rose to fame almost immediately.
Summer of 2011: LVMH named Humberto Leon and Carol Lim as Kenzo’s new creative directors. Masterminds behind American it-brand Opening Ceremony, the duo’s designs became some of the fashion industry’s most sought after pieces while their style and creative spirit lead the way for a complete rivival of the brand’s Jungle Jap origins. Their bet payed off : since 2011 each collection is a must have that trendsetters can’t get enough of. Directly inspired by the best adult items, Kenzo Kids collections mix streetwear, Asian inspirations and Parisian cool for kids’ fashion that is right on trend.
